Job Information

Provides construction engineering and technical support for one or more Construction Engineering disciplines within assigned units. Evaluates, selects, and applies construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using solid engineering judgment in making decisions. Supervises or coordinates the work of construction engineers, draftsmen, technicians, and other personnel who provide assistance on specific assignments. Provides clarification and interpretation of project design documents, contract / client specifications and construction plans. Supports material and contract management activities.

Supports construction activities and assists craftsmen and foreman with regard to construction-related issues identified on drawings. Assists project controls in assembly of work packages and provisions of engineering documents. Recommends solutions to field construction issues. Coordinates special field requests for engineering and / or vendor documents from contractors or other resources as needed. Provides input to as built drawing efforts. Evaluates and verifies vendor data and drawings from other disciplines. Supports the quality team in technical assessment of quality issues and non-conformities of construction. Receives and distributes project design documents to staff. Adheres to project safety requirements and encouragessafe work activity.

Construction Engineer IV (Fire Detection Engineer)

Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and technical project experience, and 6 years of  directly related project experience is required.

(Subjective; e.g. Excellent Communication Skills)

Good interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent computer literacy and skills in MS Office Suite required. Knowledge of the concepts, methods, standards and practices of engineering within the construction industry required. NICET III or higher certification. Experience in inspecting and troubleshooting fire alarm systems. Experience in designing fire alarm systems, including the preparation of construction documents. Knowledge of building and fire codes, including experience performing inspections and conducting / supervising tests. Knowledge of building fire ratings, fire alarm systems, flammable and combustible liquids including inspection of building systems.

• PE license; additional experience my substitute for the PE license

• AutoCAD 2009 proficiency

• Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred. Experience in Afghanistan or Iraq

Construction Engineer V (Fire Protection Engineer)

Basic Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and technical project experience, and 7 years of directly related project experience is required.

Extensive knowledge of building and fire codes, including experience performing inspections and conducting/supervising tests. Working Knowledge of building fire ratings, fire alarm systems, flammable and combustible liquids.

Experience in the use of Discipline Specific software. Experience in performing hydraulic calculations. Experience and certifications required to design fire protection systems, including the preparation of construction documents. Experience in the evaluation of new and existing fire protection systems,wet pipe, dry pipe, preaction and deluge sprinkler systems.

Experience in the evaluation of fire pumps, hose standpipes, gaseous extinguishing, dry chemical.
