Construction Engineer II Afghanistan

engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to assigned projects. Provides construction engineering and technical support for one or more Construction Engineering disciplines within assigned units. Evaluates, selects and applies construction engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using solid judgment in making decisions. Provides clarification and interpretation of project design documents, contract / client specifications and construction plans. Supports material and contract management activities. Supports construction activities and assists craftsmen and foreman with regard to construction related issues identified on drawings. Assists project controls in assembly of work packages and provisions of engineering documents. Recommends solutions to field construction issues. Coordinates special field requests for engineering and / or vendor documents from contractors or other resources as needed. Provides input to as-built drawing efforts. Evaluates and verifies vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.

Supports the quality team in technical assessment of quality issues and non-conformities of construction. Receives and distributes project design documents to project staff. Adheres to project safety requirements and encourages safe work activity

Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and technical project experience, and 5 years of directly related project experience is required.

Licensed engineer (preferred) with 5 to 10 years of design experience. Broad based engineering design knowledge, with emphasis in site development, grading and drainage, roads, sewer and water, and a general knowledge of geotechnical analysis, structural design, mechanical equipment and power distribution. Must have worked in the field as a field engineer and have a thorough understanding of the challenges encountered during construction including material delivery, relationship with the various trades, and drawing interpretation. Coordinates design effort with the various disciplines in the group and ensures coordination with disciplines outside the group. Develops Scopes of Work for a variety of projects, reviews material take-off’s and estimates. Answers questions and develops solutions with regards to the issued designs drawings, and general problems experienced by the project.

Proficient with AutoCAD 2009, Civil 3-D and MS Excel, Word, Power point.

Good interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent computer literacy and skills in MS Office Suite required. Knowledge of the concepts, methods, standards and practices of engineering within the construction industry required. Must have experience in project planning of varying sizes. Experience in project programming and schematic design development. Must be capable of developing and presenting designs. Should have a working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, and Photoshop. Must be able to articulate designs in front of groups of people. Must use AutoCAD 2009 and be comfortable using layers, reference files, paper space/model space, view ports, and annotative scales. Must use Civil 3D for grading and drainage, pipe sizing and earthwork computations.

Should have a broad working knowledge of building codes including: IBC, UFC, and NFPA 101 with implementation in design drawings.

Preferred Qualifications
(e.g. Masters Degree)

Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred. Experience in Afghanistan or Iraq Professional Engineer, P.E. or Registered Architect, R.A. preferred.
